Thank you a lot for your support!
Takes ages to load, and it took me three tries to get the game working. Then, in the first room, the screen kept flashing for no reason. After that, the tutorial was unhelpful and didn't really explain much, it didn't tell you how to control the game at all besides holding to charge an attack. Also, the tutorial was quite long and got boring after a while. It's a functional game, and it's well polished, but there are some glaring issues.
Well for starters, it does sound like you have a glaring internet issue. Only takes me about 4 seconds to load. I can also verify that the first room is in no way 'flashing'. There's also a keyboard controls button on the title screen and pause menu.
A lot of other people are doing a lot of cool things, so it sounds more like your computer than my game. See for yourself: http://retroknight.com/gamestream.php
It's a working "game", but that's about it. The characters look somewhat creepy and unnatural, and the game is incredibly short. Even ignoring that, the player has basically no control over what happens in the game. You can make one choice (to go home by yourself or with Sam), and the same thing happens no matter what you choose. It's barely a demo, let alone a game. Take some time to make a functional product before putting it here.
Loud and clear my friend.
I'm already developing an extended version of this with refreshed characters. I wanna release it by next month if everything goes as expected.
It's barely a game. It's just a random animal saying random things, asking you a few pointless questions, and it ends. My guess is that the game is meant to be funny, but it
s level of humor is that of a 4th-grader. It's just... stupid.
This is just an early demo to just test the talking mechanic. The game is not meant to be funny and I don't see any humor in it.
The "stop time" spell doesn't work.
EDIT: Yes, I am holding the button, but the people still move, even if I hit stop time.
It works as long as you are holding down the button, thanks for playing!
EDIT: Yes, you were right, I'm very sorry.
It works just fine in the EXE, and both versions use the exact same code, so it's most probably the engine's issue which I can't hope to resolve.
This needs serious work. My first complaint is the dialogue. In the tutorial, I guess he's supposed to sound edgy, but he just sounds obnoxious. Also, the tutorial should be either something that is easy to win or lose, I had no idea that my magic spell was better than the wooden sword I had. Also, when you die, you don't restart from where you last saved, you have to go to the menu and hit continue to do that. I don't see a reason for your method.
There are many issues with the combat. There isn't a health bar for any of the enemies. I didn't know how to win beyond simple trial and error. You also get attacked by so many enemies in the first level, and you basically have to run to survive. It's kind of pointless to have so many enemies pop out at you if you can't win. (There's also a chest you can open in which some creature named Gilgamesh appears and one-shots you. I have no idea why that is there )
Overall, there is potential. However, currently, there are numerous problems with the game.
Hey, thank you for your feedback! I want to start off by clarifying that I need to edit the description, the story this game is based off of has been in production for years. It used to be on wattpad, but we took it down to tweak in select things from the game. The game itself started production probably in April. As for the dialogue, it is extremely cringey, but most of it was filled dialogue we put in to test environment events. That being said, the rest of the gameplay was intentional and a nod to Final Fantasy 2, a great game if you've ever played it. Gilgamesh was also an easter egg that I put in for my beta testers, but I'm gonna leave it in. We will add some form of HP bar for enemies though at some stage, whether it be Libra or something else. This is an increasingly difficult game, so expect to be mad at me a few times. Thanks for your feedback, we hope we'll be able to address most of those concerns in future updates!
It's not a bad start.. but the controls are terrible. You move too quickly, the sprites are poorly drawn, and you jump way too high. It feels like a bad attempt at making a Super Mario clone.
Yeah, sorry still a work in progress. It was a condition of our uni assignment to have it uploaded by 5 Oct which is why it's still glitchy. Thanks for the review
It's not bad, but there are some issues. Firstly, there's no health bar. You can't tell if you are doing damage or not. Also, there's no instructions. Also the "shoot" buttons are in a bad place, I don't think the "n" and "c" keys work very well. Perhaps the q and p buttons, or space and click? And there's no boundary, you can just go off the screen.
This has the potential to be decent, but it needs improvements.
EDIT: You added the health bar and put in instructions, so I'm adding half a star to the rating. There's still the issue of going off screen, however. Otherwise, good job! It's fairly simple, but not every game is perfect, it's pretty good overall.
That's a mistake from my part, there is actuallt a health bar but it's been cut out for some reason same with the key bindings picture it's also been cut out. And why i went with C and N were because if you go with Q and P you can't really move to the left on player 1 at the same time as you shoot and to the right with player 2 when you shoot! I will look into that right now and patch it! (Hopefully that drives up your rating too ;).)
Edit: The game has now been updated to fic the issues and added in a nextra level with a twist!
It's a simple game, and isn't a new idea, but it's executed well. The art is done well, the gameplay is smooth, the music is a little annoying, but, it's good overall. There are two issues that I noticed. The first is that the game doesn't seem to get much harder from level to level, once you have a bunch of weapon upgrades it's pretty easy. Also, you can't crash and touch the ground in the game, and I don't see the reason why you can't.
This is a solid game though, keep up the good work!
HI, thanks for the review! Do you mean the music volume is too high or that you find it annoying?
It was designed for my kids and it's already hard for them to get to level 5... If most people think it's too easy I'll make it harder then.
Thanks for your time!
Hi! I'm just a guy who plays games here, and wants to try to write some music.
